A typical tribe of nomadic neobarbarians, the Schuld wandered the ruins of Racine in a perpetual state of war with most of the other local tribes and the Waltzer soldiers at Fort Purgatory. At its height, the tribe had approximately 75 members including men, women, and children, and was loosely structured; Boss Hurgin's word was absolute in battle, but in all other matters every adult had a say. Few members chose to mate for life, and children were raised collectively. In most respects the Schuld functioned like a large extended family.
The Schuld were annihilated in a battle that caught them between a hostile tribe and the walls of Fort Purgatory. The few survivors scattered. Most didn't live long. A few assimilated into other tribes. One or two (including the young Barduch) fled the city.
